Originally from Seatle, Naomi moved to the midwest as a teen and attended high school with Curt and Jess. Though bookish and reserved as a young girl, in high school Naomi discovered the underground music scene and quickly adopted her distinctive punk/goth look and a much more self-confident persona.

Naomi became friends with Jess Murtagh through class, where they were paired up as lab partners. Naomi saw the quick intelligence that others often missed in the more popular girl and tried to encourage it. It was Jess who introduced Naomi to Chip and Alex who were looking for a guitarist for their Bad Religion cover band, Terminal Dogma. Instantly smitten, Chip grew close to Naomi, beginning a simmering relationship that, while never really official, was undeniable never-the-less. Having suffered sexual abuse during childhood, Naomi had intimacy issues that affected every relationship she attempted, though Chip promised to wait for her to feel ready.

A natural artist, Naomi created a cartoon for her student paper in high school about politics and life in her scene. The winner of several state awards, she never really continued it after graduation, to her lasting regret. Work and college kept getting in the way. She continued to draw, filling art pad after art pad with doodles and comics, hoping one day to revisit her favorite hobby.

After Curt's death, Naomi moved to Minneapolis, reuniting with her high school friend Stacy, who got her a job working at the thrift shop she managed. Feeling as if she was losing direction, Naomi turned again to Chip, only to find him slipping down the slope of addiction and indifference. Though getting him to open up about his friend's death, Naomi also realized that he'd changed and allowed herself to drift away once more. It took a newly enlisted Chip being deployed to Iraq to make Naomi realize the depth of her feelings for him.

Having made tremendous personal strides through force of will and therapy, Naomi is more sure of herself than ever, often using her looks and sex appeal to her advantage. As Stacy's room mate and employee the two butt heads frequently. A habitual smoker, Naomi just can't seem to quit, thoguh truth be told, she doesn't really want to. Smart-mouthed and political, Naomi enjoys debating with conservatives and rarely keeps her leftist opinions to herself. She is the object of lust for several male characters, and a veritable obsession for Nick, who is reduced to a pool of slushy hormones around her.
