I have a little notebook full of funny snatches of conversations and half formed ideas, and the money tree thing has been in there for a couple of years until I found a way to use it. The quote is courtesy of my friend Jon Sailer, if memory serves, but I may be wrong.
I rarely like showing the characters having knowledge of the "fourth wall" these days, but I actually thought this one was funny enough to warrent it. The white background is meant to show that this strip is out of regular continuity and show the girls as self-aware comic strip characters. This strip was written while I still had the old site layout, with an ad running across right above the comic, hence Naomi looking up at it. However, with the new layout, it makes less sense. Maybe now she's just rolling her eyes in disgust. Or seeing an ad that you and I can't! I terrible, subliminal ad that will haunt your dreams and cause you to buy Downfall merchandise!
