DOWNFALL, By Jay Johnson

Season 6, Number 1

I couldn't stay away from Downfall forever, I guess. After my dissatisfaction with Half Truths, drawing this was like visiting an old friend and picking up right where we left off. It was very gratifying, in a way, to have people tell me how much better they liked Downfall, since Half Truths was supposed to be more accessable and "mainstream." It was nice to find out that what I wanted to do was what people wanted to read.

This strip serves as a second epilogue to the origional Downfall run. For the record, we're about One Year Later, and these characters have all moved on and drifted apart, only to be brought back together again by the anniversary of Curt's "death." The strip will serve as a bridge between the first run and the new strips, which will pop up on occasion, though sadly with no regularity. Jessica's line of "where do we go from here?" echoes my sentiments after I wrapped up Downfall, and with luck, this will mark the start of something new.

Since I'm not being constrained by weekly deadlines anymore, I will have the time to do something I've always wanted to do: experiment with Downfall in color. I'm slowly teaching myself to use PhotoShop with some semblance of skill, and now that I have a home computer that can run it,I'm excited to watch how the coloring will improve as I learn more.

So yeah, that's it, I guess. Thanks to all my friends and fans; stick with the strip, because it's not dead yet.
